Kaibab Plateau

Kaibab Plateau is in a plateau near the Grand Canyon's North Rim. This includes the small community of Jacob Lake, at the junction of US Route 89A and Arizona 67.

The Kaibab Plateau is an island surrounded by lower elevations. The plateau, with elevation up to 9,215 feet (2,800 m) is bordered on the south by the Grand Canyon, on the east and the west by tributary canyons of the Colorado River, and on the north by tiers of uplifted cliffs.

From the east, this area can be reached by taking the US Route 89A headed north then west from Bitter Springs, at the junction of US 89 and US 89A. From the northwest, this can be reached along US 89A headed southeast from Kanab and Fredonia.

• Northwest-bound on US 89A - into Utah's Canyon Country:
  • Town of Fredonia, Arizona - just south of the Arizona-Utah border - 30 mi (48 km).
  • Town of Kanab, Utah and gateway to Zion National Park.

• South-bound on AZ 67 - to the big ditch:
  • The North Rim of the Grand Canyon, about 45 mi (72 km) - with a view that is not as crowded as the South rim and is only open during the summer.

• East-bound on US 89A - down off the plateau:
  • Rafting tours of the Grand Canyon begin at Lees Ferry on the Colorado River, about 40 mi (64 km).
  • Vermilion Cliffs National Monument, about 40 mi (64 km) - with Lees Ferry and Lonely Dell Ranch.
  • Horseshoe Bend - near City of Page, Arizona - 80 mi (130 km).
